made of hemp with leather front reinforcement; as per the table of Cenni dated 1912, the rare Italian "ersatz" gibernage was already studied before the war but the actual production, however very scarce, was started only in the last year of the conflict, to limit the use of leather; the few specimens produced were later used for consumption in the Twenties / Thirties by the Militia and by the pre-military education departments, so as to make all the items of canvas luggage remarkably rare
